Hudson Village Theatre Announces 2014 Summer Season
-- A reprise, rock n’ roll, comedy and a mystery thriller take centre stage --

Hudson, Qc, March 13, 2014 – The Hudson Village Theatre (HVT) is pleased to announce its twenty-second season of summer plays, featuring a reprise visit from Canada’s beloved Norm Foster, the King of Rock n’ Roll, a ‘living room’ comedy and a rollicking mystery and from June 11th to August 24th, 2014.

The season opener is a repeat performance of last year’s two-hander smash, Norm Foster’s ON A FIRST NAME BASIS, playing only from June 11th to 15thand starring the Canadian playwright with co-star, Patricia Vanstone and directed byDavid NairnAfter 30 years, author David Kilbride (Foster) realizes he knows nothing about his housekeeper, Miss Hopperstaad (Vance), but when he decides to change that one evening, startling revelations uncover two lives more intertwined than anticipated.

Retro revues never miss especially if the ‘King of Rock n’ Roll’ is the star. C2 Entertainment, producers of last summer’s sold-out Summer of Love import, return with BLUE SUEDE SHOES from June 18th to 29th. With a live band onstage, Roy Leblanc, 2003 Las Vegas winner of the World’s Best Elvis, delivers and then some! Told through the eyes his lifelong business manager, Colonel Tom Parker, played by co-creator and director Chris McHargethe show covers the gamut with more than a dozen costume changes and over 45 songs from the superstar’s career beginning with the early days at Sun Records and ending with his spectacular Vegas extravaganzas.

From July 9th to 27th is WIFE BEGINS AT FORTY, a light ‘living room’ comedy written by Arne Sultan, Earl Barret and Ray Cooney and directed by Glen Bowser. George Harper and his wife Linda, are celebrating 17 years of marriage but for Linda, the passion died out long ago with George falling asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow and even sooner if they happen to be engaged in ‘relations’! Roger, their over-sexed next door neighbour, has no such problem and reveals his secret - a twice weekly rendezvous with a local barmaid to keep his juices flowing, provided one gets a vasectomy to avoid any unwanted complications. To please Linda, George follows his misguided neighbour’s advice but lacking the necessary bravado to pull it off, mishap and mayhem ensue.

A perfect end to a perfect summer is THE 39 STEPS, adapted by Patrick Barlow from the novel by John Buchan. Director Nicholas Pynes brings the Theatre Lac Brome production to HVT from August 13th to 24th. Richard Hannay, wanted for the stabbing of a woman he’s just met- a spy- is on the run. With his face plastered all over the newspapers, Hannay attempts to clear his name and carry out the victim’s mission to stop the illegal export of top secret information by a ring of spies, led by a crafty villain missing the top digit of his pinky finger. Hannay’s journey to Scotland takes several spine-tingling and humorous twists and turns, the last of which involves being handcuffed to an attractive woman convinced of his guilt. With only four actors playing multiple roles at lightning speed, the tight script, almost verbatim from the Hitchcock hit, takes on farcical dimensions guaranteed to entertain.

Those interested in purchasing a Flex Pass are urged to act quickly as there are a limited number and routinely sell out fast. Group bookings are also available through HVT’s Box Office.
