The Gladstone and its Associated Companies are thrilled to announce
The Gladstone 2014-15 Season!
[This text has been corrected]
The Gladstone is very excited about the lineup of great shows coming up in the season ahead. From a sparkling, fresh translation of one of the world's funniest plays to a darkly comic gem from a Canadian master; a fun take on a 19th century classic to a new look at a 20th century masterwork; a brilliant new work from one of Britain's hottest playwrights to one of the hottest (can you say “HOT”!) shows from New York; a brand-new 'adult' comedy from an up- and-coming local playwright to some holiday favourites for the whole family in the annual Radio Show; plus two limited- run seriously rocking cult musicals - The Gladstone has it all!
The Gladstone 2014-15 Subscription Series:
The School for Wives
by Molière, translated by David Whiteley
directed by John P. Kelly
September 12–27 (previews September 10–11)
Perhaps the funniest play by probably the world’s funniest playwright, in a fresh new translation by possibly Canada’s greatest translator of French comedies, directed by perchance Ottawa’s best director. We like those odds!

THE HUNCHBACKS OF NOTRE DAME A Comedy
created and performed by Matt Chapman, Josh Matthews and Sarah Petersiel
October 22–November 1 (preview October 21)
The Hunchbacks of Notre Dame is a quirky comedy that blends physical and verbal humour, featuring musical numbers, improv and audience interplay. If Hugo’s classic novel is about the definition of “normal”, epic power struggles, and how things often end in tragedy, then this show is about that too... but with more confetti. Created for adults, but suitable for ages 12 and up.
Produced by Black Sheep Theatre
The Glass Menagerie
by Tennessee Williams
directed by Eleanor Crowder
November 21–December 6 (preview November 20)
Love and desperation drive the fortunes of the Wingfield family in this modern American classic. Tennessee Williams turns the warm lens of memory on the tender savagery of maternal love as broken dreams of the Old South struggle with the gritty reality of the industrial heartland. Tim Oberholzer and Rachel Eugster star in this perennial favourite.
Produced by Bear & Co.
The Radio Show: The Gift of the Magi
featuring works by O. Henry and others
directed by Teri Loretto-Valentik and David Whiteley December 10–14 (preview December 9)
Always a song and story spectacular, the popular Radio Show is back! This time, it’s an evening of heart-warming holiday classics for the entire family. Join us for a night of vintage fun with live re-tellings of The Gift of the Magi, ’Twas the Night Before Christmas, The Little Prince and other timeless treats. The Gladstone Sisters are back with some local celebs and sing along carols and the result is pure enjoyment for the holidays.

Two
by Jim Cartwright
directed by Stewart Matthews
January 16–31 (previews January 14-15)
A bickering husband and wife and the dozen regulars who pass through their pub in an evening are played by two actors. Each vignette skillfully combines pathos and humour. When a little boy is left behind by his father, a fragile reconciliation occurs as their own dark tragedy is revealed.

BANKRUPT
a new comedy by Stéphanie Turple,
directed by Kevin Orr
February 27–March 14 (previews February 25–26)
A dirty, sexy new comedy about the high price of low finance. Anna, deep in debt, decides that bankruptcy is her only option. She meets with bankruptcy trustee James Larson, whose dry, uncaring information about the bankruptcy process hits poor Anna like a cold shower after a hot day of shopping. In order to avoid a life without Louis Vuitton, Anna takes up an ancient profession that promises a lot of income in a short amount of time. This intertwines her fate with that of James, his ex-wife and their son, in a series of hilarious and unexpectedly sexy ways.

Venus in Fur
by David Ives,
directed by Chris Ralph
April 9–18 (preview April 8)
Welcome to The Gladstone’s most sizzling show of the season! This award-winning play by David Ives is a delicious, suspense-packed study of the erotics of power. Enter Vanda, an out-of-work actress who turns the tables and takes charge in this sexual roundelay about power and powerlessness! Venus in Fur redefines the classic sex comedy.
