Celebrate the Slut Within Us

I'm going to start off this review with a little note about how slut (r)evolution came to be part of The Fringe Festival because you won't find it in the official program. So here's a little road map. The Traditional Dance Company of Sri Lanka had last minute travel problems. Cameryn Moore was in town to do one performance only of Phone Sex at the Gladstone and ended up filling in with another six performances of slut (r)evolution at Fringe. So look for Sri Lankan Dance to find slut (r)evolution.
I tend to think that sluts are just choosing to come out, rather than having a revolution, but that is not the point of Moore's play. It is a frank one-on-one conversation about sex. The thing about frank conversations is that there is no veneer, no sugar-coated frosting to sweeten what lies underneath.
Cameryn Moore is a personable and honest performer that discusses BDSM, Lesbian, Transgender issues and masturbation without judgement but she doesn't try to disguise anything as virtue or higher purpose either. Nor does she hide from issues of loneliness, danger, shame or fear as we discover our place and our identity sexually and in the larger scale as people.
One of the great things about festivals is that people talk about what they've seen and the cross pollination occurs very quickly as people buzz like bees around the hive. When I saw Chase Padgett's 6 Guitars he jumped up and thanked the audience and recommended Ask Aggie and slut (r)evolution to the audience as other things to go see. He added; “if you're not offended by anything!” when discussing the latter.
I understand why he said that. It doesn't matter how much you think prudes and hypocrites should get exposed to real life, they will not go. So here's my nefarious little idea. If you know someone very prudish or closed-minded, why don't you invite them to come see the Traditional Dance Company of Sri Lanka? You can even show it to them in the programme. Then take them in to see Ms Moore's slut (r)evolution. Now that would be entertaining times two!
[Ed: Cameryn Moore is also a columnist at The Charlebois Post]
runtime: approximately 60 minutes with no intermission
slut (r)evolution runs until June 30
