Highlights include an innovative concert/theatre hybrid, fresh voices, theatre dynamos and a new “Within Our Walls: Guest Company Series”

Toronto, ON – Theatre Passe Muraille (TPM) today announced its 2014.2015 season.
 
This year the company has gone all out, presenting a concert/theatre hybrid, a two year National Tour, a Canadian murder mystery with a twist, an up-and-coming playwright’s exploration of a personal tale and a TPM alumna bringing the tumultuous lives of seven historic women from poetry to life. Plus an exciting new Within Our Walls: Guest Company Series.
 
The TPM season includes a wide range of theatrical talent. There are award winning musicians Raoul Bhaneja and Divine Brown, the fresh voices of Sara Farb and Andrew Templeton, plus theatre dynamos - Maev Beaty, Cyrus Lane, Nicky Guadagni.
 
“We are interested in the harmony of art and entertainment and while we may not seek to make theatre for everybody, we do seek to make theatre for anybody,” said Artistic Director Andy McKim. “My greatest pleasure is sitting in our theatre with a heterogeneous audience, captivated by the diverse work of our wide range of artists. I am so proud that our theatre offers that experience. “
 
Life, Death and The Blues, in association with Hope and Hell Theatre Co, is the first of four new shows produced by TPM in their upcoming season. This innovative concert/theatre hybrid created by Gemini nominated actor and Maple Blues Award winner, Raoul Bhaneja has created a play that explores the power, passion and meaning of the blues. This will also be the originating production for a two-year National tour.
 

In Andrew Templeton’s Angus Drive, set in the roaring 20’s, featuring Maev Beaty and Cyrus Lane, directed by Alan Dilworth, John and Jean swig gin and play mind games. This witty murder mystery with a twist began its development in Theatre Passe Muraille’s Buzz Festival.


The company is delighted to welcome up-and-coming playwright Sara Farb with her personal piece R-E-B-E-C-C-A. Based on Farb’s younger sister, the play explores a parallel life that might have been.TPM alumna Nicky Guadagni brings Canadian poet Carolyn Smart’s book of brilliant poems to life, charting the unbridled lives of seven remarkable historic women in Hooked.
 
In the new Within Our Walls: Guest Company Series, Theatre Passe Muraille welcomesPleiades Theatre with Quebec playwright Suzanne Lebeau’s award-winning The Sound of Cracking Bones/le Bruit des os qui craquent, a poetic and inspiring story about two child soldiers. It is also appropriate for younger audiences and will be performed in both English and French versions.
 
In the second Within Our Walls production, Karen Woolridge, assisted by director Kate Lynch, will premiere My Treasure Island!!!, Karen’s adaptation of author Sara Levine’s hit book Treasure Island!!!, produced by Johnson GirlsThis is a comedy about a college graduate (Caitlin Driscoll) with a dead-end job a bland boyfriend who becomes obsessed with Robert Louis Stevenson's classic boy book and redesigns her life around its Core Values. Joining her journey to bolder selfhood is a hostile parrot, showcasing the puppetry arts of Gemma James-Smith.
 
The upcoming 2014.15 season features four original plays and a new Within Our Walls: Guest Company Series carefully chosen by McKim to reaffirm TPM’s mandate to produce great Canadian theatre that is socially relevant and features budding as well as renowned artists, marginal voices and inventive, multi-disciplinary work.
