Hart House Theatre Announces its 2014/2015 Season

Toronto, Ontario - Hart House Theatre, the University of Toronto's Performing Arts Leader Since 1919, is proud to announce its 2014/2015 season. This season's line-up is a diverse mix of classical and contemporary work as Hart House Theatre continues its tradition of producing affordable, accessible, high-quality productions for downtown Toronto audiences. The 2014/2015 season features a classic farce by a beloved and notorious playwright, one of Shakespeare's most enduring plays, the best rock opera ever created and a Canadian classic that calls for social change as it ignites our passions.

The Importance of Being Earnest A Trivial Comedy for Serious People By Oscar Wilde Directed by Cory Doran* Sept. 19-Oct. 4, 2014  A farcical satire written by one of the world's most prolific writers, The Importance of Being Earnest has stood the test of time and remains an audience favourite. This story of two Victorian aristocrats trying to escape their social burdens contains all of Oscar Wilde's characteristic wit, Victorian charm and biting social commentary without ever becoming too serious. From its structure and creative process to its subject matter and performing space, This is for You, Anna is a cheekily satirical and surprisingly poignant play that stands apart even today. A range of topics will be explored such as the collective creation process, the legal arguments presented in the cases of characters Anna and Marianne, the current state of women's shelters, blaming the victim and rape culture.
