News: (Toronto) Tapestry announces season (Press release)

Tapestry Announces 2013-14 Season
Includes Much-anticipated Toronto Premiere of SHELTER
TAPESTRY BRIEFS Begins this Thursday
TAPESTRY, Canada’s leader in the development and performance of new opera, today announced their 2013-14 season including the Toronto premiere of SHELTER, a chamber opera by composer Juliet Palmer and librettist Julie Salverson.
Funny, heartfelt and moving, SHELTER explores the birth of nuclear energy and its explosive consequences through the wacky adventures of a seemingly happy nuclear family.  SHELTER received its world premiere last season in a co-production with Edmonton Opera and garnered strong reviews: “Remarkably provocative” and “Peter McGillivray is excellent from first note to last” - Stephan Bonfield, Calgary Herald; “A strong staging” - Heidi Waleson, Wall Street Journal; and “Genuinely funny…engaging experience” - Mark Morris, Edmonton Journal.
The cast will include mezzo-soprano Christine Duncan, baritone Peter McGillivray, tenor Keith Klassen and mezzo-soprano Andrea Ludwig.  SHELTER will be directed by Keith Turnbull.
In addition to SHELTER, Tapestry’s 2013-14 season includes the previously announced Tapestry Briefs; the Tapestry Songbook where the next generation of opera stars perform excerpts by some of Canada’s leading contemporary opera composers and librettists; and Tapestry Explorations, an evening that fuses theatre, opera and dance.
