bcurrent's Founding Artistic Director passes the torch to
Co-Artistic Director duo

Toronto, ON - b current is excited to announce the installment of Jajube Mandiela and Ngozi Paul as Co-Artistic Directors. Beginning in the company's 2013-2014 season, their fresh leadership, tenacity, and zealous vision will undoubtedly move the company into an even more thrilling era!

b current's Founding Artistic Director, ahdri zhina mandiela, is leaving her position after 22 years. As mentor and creator, her leadership has touched and shaped many artists over the course of her illustrious career. ahdri led b current to several dora nominations and awards, mentored countless artists, and was a driving forcebehind acclaimed theatre productions in the city including, in recent years, Obeah OperaWise.Women, and who.knew.grannie: a dub aria. The company wishes to acknowledge mandiela's great artistic influence and impact by having her continue with b current as Artistic Director Emeritus.

Jajube Mandiela is an emerging stage director as well as a stage and screen actor best known for several seasons as Chantay on MuchMusic’s DegrassiShe has performed in acclaimed and award nominated theatre productions such as Greenland, Wrecked and Binti’s Journey. She also directed and co-produced All of Him at Summerworks and Femfest festivals, and TICK at the Toronto Fringe and Best of FringeKids! 

Ngozi Paul is an award-winning Canadian actor, writer, and producer of film, television and trans-media projects. Ngozi is best known for creating, producing and starring in the award winning television series ‘da Kink in My Hair, which she guided from stage to screen as original castmember to executive producer. This top-rated sitcom has been broadcast in over a dozen countries and garnered multiple nominations and awards, including the Gold Medal Ribbon award for best scripted series and numerous Gemini awards. In 2012, she graduated from the Stratford Conservatory and the Canadian Film Centre Producer’s Lab. Ngozi is currently working on The Emancipation of Ms. Lovely a new play about a young black woman’s journey of self-discovery and The 1st Time Project a multi-platform project that focuses on inter-generational and inter-cultural dialogue around sex.
