Toronto, ON – Theatre Passe Muraille (TPM) is delighted to announce that Régine Cadet will be joining the company as general manager. Cadet comes to TPM after twelve years with MAI (Montréal, Arts Interculturels), where she held the position of artistic and executive director for seven years. Under Cadet’s direction, MAI has become a Québec leader for the development of intercultural and culturally specific work by performance and visual artists.

I could not have imagined a better place to pursue my career while immersing myself in Toronto’s vibrant theatre community,” said Cadet. “I look forward to working with the whole team to continue presenting innovative and provocative Canadian theatre while empowering emerging artists and building awareness for marginal voices.”
Cadet has been a integral member of the arts community in Montréal, deeply involved in supporting and mentoring diasporic and emerging artists through her work at MAI, Culture Montréal and ResArtE (Réseau des artistes pour l’équité). She has served on juries and committees for local, provincial and national arts councils, and was a member of various advisory committees for the Montréal Arts Council.
“Régine exemplifies the values and aspirations of Theatre Passe Muraille,” said Diana Belshaw, chair of the search committee and vice president of Theatre Passe Muraille’s board of directors. “Her deep commitment to collaborative work as both an artist and an administrator resonated immediately with all of us in the first interview. We are confident that the cross-fertilization of ideas she will initiate, partnered with her formidable management abilities, will enable TPM to move into the future with even more strength and vision. We look forward to the theatrical magic that Régine and Andy will create together.”
Cadet has received extensive recognition for her work. She was included in Pierre Maraval’s Mille Femmes project to recognize exceptional women from Québec, was profiled in both Référence and Commerce magazines, and received the 2008 MERITAS prize awarded by the Haitian-Canadian Chamber of Commerce to men and women who have made a mark in the business sector.
Originally from Haiti, Cadet trained at the Haitian American Academy of Ballet and Arts, later joining the Ballet Folklorique d’Haiti. On her arrival in Canada, she founded the dance company, EKSPRESYON, which brought together elements of traditional dance, modern and jazz dance and with which she worked as artistic director, dancer and choreographer.
“I can’t wait to welcome Régine into the office,” said artistic director Andy McKim. “She is an astonishingly talented artist, dancer and businesswoman. Coming from an inter-cultural arts institution in Montreal, she will have a lot to offer our theatre and our community.”
Cadet will join the staff at Theatre Passe Muraille in January 2014.
