Musicals everywhere again this week! At the Orillia Opera House, appropriately, there is Mid Life! The Crisis Musical. Biological clocks, prostates, mammograms - it's all there in its hilarious hideousness. Generation X...you ain't the youngsters anymore so you might as well sing along. (Orillia, Ontario)
It is very hard not to sing along with Oliver!, the Lionel Bart adaptation of Dickens' beloved Oliver Twist. "Where is Love", "Who Will Buy?", "Oom-Pa-Pa!" and a chorus of orphans who will break your heart. Floating through it all are stories of redemption, murder, rogues and Dickensian horrors. (Port Hope, Ontario)
Speaking of horror... A planet, a plant, singing street girls, and a nerd in love with the luscious blonde who is prey to a sadistic dentist. And that plant? It becomes a star as it grows and grows and grows and eats and eats and eats. Roger Corman created the (still-hilarious) movie, the musical grew off-Broadway, but it is world-wide audiences who have made Little Show of Horrors the phenomenon it is. (Ganonoque, Ontario)
