BLACK THEATRE WORKSHOP WELCOMES QUINCY ARMORER AS NEW ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
MONTREAL, August 25, 2011 – The Board of Governors announced today that it has selected its new Artistic Director of Black Theatre WorkshopQuincy Armorer. Quincy has a long history with the company, a vast amount of theatrical experience within Canada, and the board and staff are pleased with this new appointment.
“We are thrilled that Quincy has returned to us in this important role, an accomplished artist, developed within the Black Theatre Workshop family, he honed his skills in the wider Canadian theatre community. We look forward to Quincy’s artistic leadership, as BTW continues its pursuit of excellence as we embark on our 41st season.” Jacklin Webb, Black Theatre Workshop President Quincy Armorer has worked as an actor, director and theatre administrator for several years. As an actor, he has worked at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, Centaur Theatre, Black Theatre Workshop, St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival, Repercussion, Geordie Productions, Piggery Theatre,Shakespeare by the Sea, among others. A graduate of the Department of Theatre at Concordia University, he served for 3 years as vice-president of the board of directors for the Quebec Drama Federation, and held several administrative positions at Centaur Theatre, where he worked for over 10 years. He was Associate Artistic Director of Black Theatre Workshop for its 2005-2006 season and has worked with the company over many years as a director, assistant director and stage manager. He is an alumnus of the Birmingham Conservatory for Classical Theatre at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, and will appear in Intimate Apparel at Centaur Theatre this season, and in A Midsummer Night's Dream and the title role in Othello at the St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival.

Quincy will be replacing former Black Theatre Workshop Artistic Director Tyrone Benskin, newly elected MP for the New Democratic Party of Canada.
