Review: (Vancouver) Little Pussy (Fringe)

Bullied...alone

There are a lot of one person shows at the Fringe. There are a lot of very personal stories in the Fringe. When something profound happens in an actor's life they almost always want to create a show about it. Sometimes that is something that perhaps should be taken up with a therapist but on some occasions the artist is able to create an engaging and/or encompassing story. A story that can help the audience reflect on their own lives.

John Grady is a dancer and a former member of the Blue Man Group and he has assembled a series of related stories about when he was bullied. He has a quirky wit. He was 'hockey' big, without all that hockey around him and has a fun way with words. "My think box was not talking to my face hole."  There are many sympathetic laughs. He has a great physicality and as he moves about into different pools of light the drama of the tales is realized without set or costume.

It's just stories we can relate to and empathize with and that makes for a very rewarding night at the theatre.
