News: (Toronto) Soulpepper announces Fall/Winter season

SOULPEPPER'S FALL and WINTER SEASONS

Dates announced for the Global Cabaret Festival & the Impulse Festival.

Toronto, ON – September 4, 2013: Albert Schultz, Founding Artistic Director of Soulpepper Theatre Company, today released details about Soulpepper's remaining 2013 lineup: Alan Ayckbourn's three-piece rompThe Norman Conquests; John Murrell's Farther West; and two returning Soulpepper favourites, Alligator Pie andParfumerie. Save the date! This year's Global Cabaret Festival will take place from October 24 to 27, 2013 and will once again feature over 100 artists performing original cabaret, theatre and dance works at the Young Centre. The Festival will also include the Soulpepper Dance Awards. Established last year, these awards recognise Toronto-based artists who demonstrate creativity, innovation, collaboration, and spirit, through dance. Awards will be given in four categories: Emerging Dance Artist; Senior Dance Artist; Community Dance Artist; and Multi-Disciplinary Artist.

New this year, Soulpepper in association with The National Theatre of the World will present the Impulse Festival, a four-day celebration of improvisation, performed by improv troupes from around the world from December 12 to 15, 2013. Details to be announced.

The Norman Conquests
Over the course of three plays, a cast of six moves through a dining room, a living room, and a garden, as a secretive weekend away for the affable librarian Norman turns into a series of misunderstandings, trysts, and revelations. Written by Alan Ayckbourn, a master of British stage humour, and directed by Soulpepper Founding Member Ted Dykstra, the cast features: Derek Boyes; Laura Condlln and Sarah Mennell in their Soulpepper debuts; Oliver Dennis; Fiona Reid; and Albert Schultz.
The Norman Conquests are conceived to be enjoyed individually or in any combination. Marathon performances available.
Table Manners runs from September 27 to November 16; opening night is October 9.
Living Together runs from September 28 to November 16; opening night is October 10.
Round and Round the Garden runs from September 28 to November 16; opening night is October 15.

Farther West
In Farther West, Canadian playwright John Murrell (Soulpepper's Uncle Vanya adaptation and Waiting for the Parade) tells a sweeping tale of romance, independence, and fate, as prostitute May Buchanan moves steadily west across gold rush-era Canada, pursued by two men obsessed with possessing her again. Farther West is directed by Soulpepper Founding Member Diana Leblanc and features: Akosua Amo-Adem; Evan Buliung; Dan Chameroy; Jesse Aaron Dwyre; Jeff Lillico; Soulpepper Founding Member William Webster; and Kyra Harper, Christine Horne, Dan Lett, Matthew MacFadzean and Tara Nicodemo in their Soulpepper debuts.

Farther West runs from October 11 to November 9; opening night is October 17.

Alligator Pie
Alligator Pie, an original Soulpepper production and recent Dora Award-winner for Outstanding Ensemble, brings the celebrated children's poems of Canada's Father Goose, Dennis Lee, to vibrant theatrical life. Soulpepper's creation ensemble fills the stage with music, invention and Lee's delicious imagination. Created and performed by Ins Choi, Raquel Duffy, Ken MacKenzie, Gregory Prest and Mike Ross; poems by Dennis Lee.

Alligator Pie runs from November 3 to December 1.

Parfumerie
By popular demand, the award-winning, heart-warming holiday hit returns! In this comedy, the basis for both The Shop Around the Corner and You've Got Mail, two shop clerks kindle a tender love affair through anonymous letters while they unwittingly squabble with one another in person. Written by Miklós László and adapted by Adam Pettle and Brenda Robins, Parfumerie is directed by Morris Panych and features Maev Beaty, Kevin Bundy, Oliver Dennis, Patricia Fagan, Jeff Lillico, Miranda Mulholland, Noah Reid, Brenda Robins, Michael Simpson, Kristina Uranowski, and Soulpepper Founding Members William Webster and Joseph Ziegler.
Parfumerie runs from November 27 to December 21; opening night is November 28.
